The WST is the bench designed to verify the sealing of the water cooling circuit in turbocharger components.
It makes it possible to identify micro-leaks, cracks, or structural defects that could cause contamination between the water circuit and the oil circuit, which must always remain separate.
Test objective
The system makes it possible to verify that:
- the cooling chamber is perfectly intact
- there are no passages of water toward the oil circuit
- the component is suitable for use or overhaul
Configuration and compatibility
The VST integrates the universal support common to all equipment in the range, allowing:
- use of the same adapters
- compatibility with:
- flow benches
- balancing machines
- other test systems
Dedicated hydraulic system
The bench uses a circuit designed specifically for water:
- dedicated piping
- stainless steel fittings
- system with micro sealing valves
This configuration is necessary because water, compared with oil, requires more precise management to avoid leaks and ensure test reliability.
Operator interface
The system is equipped with:
- 4.3” LCD touchscreen display
- intuitive interface for test management
- complete control of the operating cycle
Test procedure
Preparation
- filling the tank with water + UV tracer
- securing the component (center housing or other)
- connecting inlet/outlet pipes
Phase 1 – Circulation
- water is circulated through the component
- simulation of real operation
Phase 2 – Pressurization
- automatic closure of inlet and outlet
- system kept under pressure (about 7 – 7.5 bar)
Phase 3 – Analysis
- pressure monitoring over time
- indicative tolerance: ≤ 0.5 bar drop
Leak detection
At the end of the test:
- visual inspection with included UV flashlight
- the tracer highlights any micro-leaks immediately
Reporting and traceability
The system makes it possible to generate complete reports:
- saving to USB (PDF)
- or printing via dedicated printer
Included data
- test pressure
- date and time
- result
- operator
The operator can validate the result directly from the software.
Advanced applications
In addition to standard cores, the VST allows testing of:
- new-generation turbine housings made of aluminum alloy
- with integrated water circuit (e.g. modern automotive applications)
- turbochargers for marine engines
- subject to strong corrosion
- greater risk of internal damage
- critical need to verify water tightness
Operational advantages
- precise detection even of micro-leaks
- prevention of water/oil contamination
- compatibility with different components
- integration into the overhaul workflow
- complete test traceability
In summary
The VST is a fundamental tool for ensuring:
- component safety
- overhaul quality
- long-term turbocharger reliability
